Superbaby

Look up in the sky! It's a bird, no it's a plane, no, it's Superbaby! Disguised as not so mild-mannered Colin Kipp, Superbaby fights for truth, justice and the American Way. When we last left our hero, he was trying on shoes for the first time. Here is Colin, I mean Superbaby, showing us what it would look like if he could walk. I am sure that will come soon enough for Mommy and Daddy.
In keeping with the theme, today at the furniture store, Colin went into a small space and came out in an entirely new outfit. I am sure you can guess what would prompt such a sudden change. Fortunately, I can say that we were not obligated to buy an furniture today.

Carolina Hurricanes

This blog entry is a special contribution from Sally, Matt and the girls down in NC. They are big Carolina Hurricane fans, although Matt might still say his allegiance is with the Pens. For Sally and Elizabeth there can be no doubt that the 'Canes are the best. It looks like Colin has made his choice already.

Thanks so much for the bib! It just arrived in the mail today. If you look closely, he is also wearing one of the outfits you got him for Christmas. That was just a coincidence.

Colin is tried of writing this blog entry and is now crying as he sits on my lap. I had better run. I am sure he needs something, or thinks he needs something.

Sitting Up? Well, not quite yet.

Did we fool you? Colin is not yet up to sitting up on his own but he enjoys the new perspective on the world. Mommy is giving him a little help to stay upright. Colin is on track for a 4 month old and passed all his tests this week at the doctor. He has very good neck control and the doctor seemed pleased with his progress. He handled his latest round of shots very well. Colin continues to track along a similar path on the charts, around 25% weight, 50% height, and 14% head. Compared to his peers, Colin is skinny with a small head.

We put him in the saucer for the first time this weekend and he seemed to enjoy that experience. He is still a little small, but he likes the sensation of sitting or standing up. He really likes to see what is going on in the world. We think that is why he is often tired after daycare. He is busy watching all of the activity in the room.

Cold Season

During the past two weeks we have experienced one of the common joys of daycare. First, Colin starts to get a bit stuffy with a cold and by the time Dad comes back from his trip he has a bad cold (either from Colin or from the plane). Then as Colin is getting better and Dad is just turning the corner, Mom gets the cold (either from Colin or from Dad). Hopefully, we won't just start the cycle all over again. At least, all we are dealing with is a cold.

Colin has his 4 month check up this Friday so we will get his new official measurements. Colin probably doesn't know this yet, but he also gets some more shots. Stay tuned to see if his very small head has moved up in percentile.

Daddy's First Out of Town Trip

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. It is not due to depression over the Steelers loss, but rather that Daddy had to go out of town this week for his first time away from Colin. Daddy was gone from Tuesday morning until Saturday. The first trip was hard on everyone because Colin had developed a cold. Yes, after only 5 days of daycare he was already sick. We knew that daycare would lead to colds but we were hoping it would not be so fast. Gran-T and PopPop came up to help out which allowed mommy to work the first 3 days of the week and take the next 4 off. Colin is still not better yet and we go back to daycare tomorrow.

Daddy's trip was over to Europe for a few days with stops in the UK and Switzerland. There wasn't any time for sightseeing but we did make it to downtown Geneva for dinner and I can report sighting snow capped mountains. With the traveling and lack of sleep, Daddy came back with a cold as well. A tough start to our time in daycare.

Tough Loss

Steeler fans here took the loss hard last night. After a great first drive, Big Ben threw 3 first half interceptions with one returned for a TD and the special teams again had a lapse with a 96 yd return. In the second half the Steelers fought back and were in position to win the game. So many calls could have changed the outcome. This one was a tough one for a 3.5 month old to take (and for the 36 year old).

The Pats would have been a tough match up anyway.

Bring on the Tar Heels. BBall season is here.

Here we go Steelers!

The Steelers face a stiff test today in the Wild Card round of the playoffs but Colin is ready for the big game. Injuries have plagued the Steelers late in the season and they are going with backups at several key positions. A big game from Big Ben is a must.

The start of the new year brought many changes for the Kipp family. Colin had his first day of "school" this week and Kristin went back to work. We were very grateful for the short week. Colin was pretty beat after two days of day care but he did pretty well.

Happy New Year!
