Charleston, SC Vacation

We just got back from our vacation to Charleston, SC. We had a great time even though the weather was lousy. On Monday, a record was set for the all time low high temperature for that date. Add some wind and rain to the equation and then you will have the complete picture. We weren't planning on spending the whole day at the beach anyway, even though we were staying at the beach. We spent our time touring the historical attractions around Charleston like Fort Sumter (above) and the USS Yorktown (below). Colin really enjoyed all of the attention!

PA Railroad Museum

Since Colin is a big fan of the "Choo-Choos", we headed to Strasburg, PA today to visit the PA Railroad Museum. The museum has a very large space with many fully restored engines. Colin was interested in seeing the trains, but the most fascinating part for him was a play room that had a large Thomas the Train set and a large Geo-Trak set up. He could have stayed all day playing with these toys. Here he is in front of the Geo-Trak set to give you an idea. He is watching a train that you can activate that circles the track near the ceiling.

Philadelphia Zoo

This weekend we visited the Philadelphia Zoo for the first time. The Philadelphia Zoo claims to be the oldest in the US and consequently it is not as spread out as many of the newer zoos you are likely to visit. Good for seeing the animals up close, probably not so great for the animals. A good example was in the Big Cat area. Colin was close enough to start petting this lion if the glass was not there. Strangely enough he gets nervous about petting a small dog, but he was ready to pet the mane of the lion. I think this was his favorite part and the "Roar" of the lion is one of his favorite animal noises right now. We decided to join with a family membership so we may drag visitors to the zoo as an alternative to Longwood Gardens.
