This weekend we visited the Philadelphia Zoo for the first time. The Philadelphia Zoo claims to be the oldest in the US and consequently it is not as spread out as many of the newer zoos you are likely to visit. Good for seeing the animals up close, probably not so great for the animals. A good example was in the Big Cat area. Colin was close enough to start petting this lion if the glass was not there. Strangely enough he gets nervous about petting a small dog, but he was ready to pet the mane of the lion. I think this was his favorite part and the "Roar" of the lion is one of his favorite animal noises right now. We decided to join with a family membership so we may drag visitors to the zoo as an alternative to Longwood Gardens.

Yey Zoos! If your zoo is AZA certified, you can get into the carolina aquarium for free this winter. I took over as board president for our local zoo last week. We're pretty big zoo fans here as you might guess.
